Learn how to enable online gift card sales, set up gift card options, and understand how customers purchase and check gift card balances from your website.

This article explains how to enable the Online Gift Card feature through your Online Booking settings. Once activated, clients will be able to purchase digital gift cards from your Online Booking site. You can turn this feature on at any time and manage it from the Pages and Navigation section in your settings.

βš™οΈEnable Online Gift Cards

These instructions show you how to enable online gift card sales on your Online Booking site. You’ll learn how to access the Online Gift Cards settings, turn the feature on, and make gift cards available for clients to purchase through your website.

  1. Navigate to your online booking website:

    • Click Online Service in the top menu bar.

    • Select Online Booking.

    • Click Edit Website Appearance.

    • Select Website Options on the left sidebar.

  2. Click on Online Gift Cards.
    ​

  3. Toggle Sell Online Gift Cards to Yes.

🎁Set Up Gift Card Options

These instructions explain how to set up online gift card options in your account. You’ll learn how to customize the look of your gift card page, set suggested or custom amounts, add expiration rules, choose and upload designs, write a gift card policy, and save your changes so clients can purchase cards online.

  1. After enabling Online Gift Cards you will now see several options under the Online Gift Cards screen.
    ​

  2. Under General Settings:
    ​

    • Choose your Theme Color that your buttons will appear in on the gift card screen.
      ​

    • Enter a Header logo and/or text to appear on your site. Click Browse to select a logo from your computer
      ​

    • The Preview Link is the link to your gift card screen, and you can send this to your customers if you would like.
      ​

  3. Under Gift Card Amounts:
    ​

    • Add up to five Suggested Amounts.
      ​

    • Enable Custom Amount if you want to allow clients to enter any amount and set a Minimum and Maximum.
      ​

  4. Choose whether or not you want to assign an expiration date to a gift card when it is sold and if so, set the number of days below.
    ​

  5. Under Gift Card Designs, select which of the predesigned gift card templates you want visible and which ones you want featured (only 5 designs can be featured).
    ​

    • Click the Preview button to see a preview of what the gift card design looks like.
      ​

    • Click Add New Design to upload your own gift card designs.
      ​

  6. Under Gift Card Policy type in your policy that you would like to appear at the bottom of the order form and in the email your client will receive.

  7. Click Save Changes in the bottom right of your screen.

πŸ›’ How Customers Purchase Gift Cards

Learn how your clients will navigate the online gift card purchase process, from selecting a design to completing payment.

  1. Your client will start by going to your Online Booking Gift Card page (this will be found on your Online Booking site).

  2. Once on your gift card page, they will Select a Design for the gift card and choose an Amount using preset values, or they may enter a Custom amount.
    ​

  3. Under Sender Information, they will enter the sender's name and email address. This will be their information since they are purchasing the gift card.
    ​

  4. Under Recipient Option, they will select either This is for me or This is for someone else.

    • By choosing This is for me, they will receive the gift card by email where they can print out the card after purchasing.

    • If they select This is for someone else, they will then be prompted to enter the name and email address of who will be receiving the gift card.
      ​

  5. Lastly, they can enter a message to be included in the email.
    ​

  6. The client will then click on Checkout to proceed to payment.
    ​

  7. During checkout, they can either Log In, Sign Up for an account, or Continue as Guest, where they will just be asked to enter their credit card information.

    • Once logged in, the site will load any credit cards that they have saved on file.
      ​

    • The client will select the card they want to purchase the gift card with, or select Use New Card to add a new credit card.

    • If no cards are on file, they will need to enter their credit card information and have the option to save that card on file.
      ​

  8. Once your client has their credit card information added, they will click Purchase Now.
    ​

  9. Once the purchase is complete, an email will be sent to the client to confirm their purchase. An email will also be sent to the recipient for them to save or print out.

  10. A third email will be sent to the business to notify you that a purchase has been made.

  1. The user will start by going to your Online Booking Gift Card page (this will be found on your Online Booking site).

  2. In the upper right-hand corner, they can click Check Balance next to "Already have a gift card?"

  3. The user will be prompted to enter their Gift Card ID.
    ​

  4. Once the gift card ID has been entered, they will click Check Balance.
    ​

  5. They can then check another gift card's balance or purchase additional gift cards from this page as well.


⚠️ Troubleshooting

Find solutions to common issues with online gift card sales.

  • Gift card page is not appearing on my Online Booking site: Make sure you have toggled Sell Online Gift Cards to Yes and clicked Save Changes. Also verify that Online Booking and integrated credit card processing are both enabled on your account.

  • Client is unable to complete their gift card purchase: The client must have a valid credit card to complete the purchase. If they are logged in, they can use a saved card or add a new one. If continuing as a guest, they will need to enter their credit card information manually. If the issue persists, confirm that your integrated credit card processing (CardConnect or Stripe) is active.

  • Client did not receive their gift card email: Have the client check their spam or junk folder. The confirmation email is sent immediately after purchase. If it still hasn't arrived, verify that the email address entered during checkout was correct.

Do clients receive digital gift cards immediately?

Yes. Once the gift card is purchased online, the client will receive it by email right away.

Can I customize the gift card page?

Basic text and layout can be controlled through your Online Booking Site Styles settings. Design options are limited but can be managed via themes in Website Options or Site Styles and Layout.

Can I disable online gift cards later?

Yes. Return to the Pages and Navigation section and click Yes next to Gift Cards to toggle it back to No, then click Save Changes.

Does this allow me to sell products online?

No, this does not allow for the sale of products online. The only option we currently have is to sell gift cards online through Online Booking.

Can clients purchase gift cards through the booking plugin?

No. Gift cards cannot be purchased directly through the booking plugin. However, you can use the provided preview link to direct clients to your online gift card purchase page from another website or platform.

Who receives email notifications when a gift card is purchased?

Three emails are sent after a gift card purchase: one to the buyer confirming their purchase, one to the recipient with the gift card details, and one to the business notifying you that a purchase has been made.

Can a client check their gift card balance online?

Yes. Clients can check their gift card balance by visiting your Online Booking Gift Card page and clicking Check Balance in the upper right-hand corner. They will need their Gift Card ID to look up the balance.

Do gift cards expire?

That depends on your settings. You can choose whether to assign an expiration date to gift cards when they are sold. If enabled, you set the number of days until expiration in your Online Gift Cards settings.
