These instructions will guide you through setting up a Dymo Barcode Label printer that can be used with your software and provide you with a brief overview of how to set up and select labels for printing.

Installing Drivers
Before you plug your Dymo printer into your computer, it's best to install the drivers. If you have the CD that came with your printer, you can install them using this. Just insert the disc into your CD-ROM and follow the setup instructions. If you do not have a disc, the driver software package can be downloaded from our website here. When the file has downloaded:

  1. Run the installation file. This will install drivers for your Dymo printer as well as some Dymo software that can be used for label printing outside your software.

  2. When this installer is finished, plug the device into an available USB port on your computer and make sure it's turned on. Windows will automatically detect and configure your device for use.

  3. Load your labels following the instructions on the diagram inside the printer's lid.

  4. Once Windows tells you that your device is ready for use, it may be a good idea to print a test page to verify it's working properly. Go to Windows Start > Devices & Printers. Right-click on the Dymo Printer and choose Printer properties. Click the Print Test Page button. This will generate a printed label with some test information. When this prints successfully, you can move to your software and start printing barcode labels.

Printing Barcode Labels
Your software has the ability to print barcode labels for all your products, service, and packages. You will find the functions for this in the Products & Services pull-down menu. Click on Print Barcode Labels or just use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + L anywhere in your software.

  1. Build a list of labels that you would like to print by holding Ctrl on your keyboard and selecting the items that need labels or click the Select All Rows button and then the Add Selected Items button.

  2. Double-click in the Qty To Print column for each item or select multiple rows requiring the same number of labels and click the Enter Quantity To Print button.

  3. When you have added quantities for all your selected items, click Next in the lower right.

  4. Select the appropriate label to use from the pull-down menu in the upper left that matches the label you have loaded in your printer. Click the Edit Label button if you wish to make any changes to the layout and formatting of the label. Use the Generate Test Button here to make sure your alterations achieve the desired results. Click OK to return to the Print Labels options.

  5. Add or remove an optional message and select any other items to include in the lower sections of this screen and click Print. This will print your labels for you to add to your inventory.

More On Barcode Labels
Note that if you use the Professional, Multi-Computer, or Multi-Location edition and take advantage of the Purchase Orders function in the software, you can use the Print Labels button when receiving inventory and closing POs to print labels for all new items you're adding to your inventory.

Troubleshooting
Below are some troubleshooting steps in the event that you're unable to generate labels with your Dymo Label Printer. Try each of these in turn using the order shown.

Clear the printer queue
Sometimes, a "log jam" of documents can be stuck in the printer's job queue. This is one of the most common issues with printers. These can be cleared. If you have pending jobs, you will likely need to print them again once the queue is cleared. It's possible one or more jobs will print when all the documents are cleared.

  1. In Windows, go to Devices & Printers.

  2. Locate your label printer. It should be named something like Dymo Label Writer. Double-click on it.

  3. If there are several documents in the list displayed, select the Printer pull-down menu and select Cancel all documents. This will clear everything from the printer's queue. Close the print queue window.

  4. Generate a test label by right-clicking on the Dymo Printer and choosing Printer properties. Click the Print Test Page button. This will generate a printed label with some test information.

Restart the Print Spooler
Occasionally, the Windows service that manages printing and printers will not function properly. It can safely and easily be restarted.

  1. Go to Windows Start.

  2. Begin a search by typing: Services.

  3. Depending on your version of Windows, you may see a result called simply Services with a gears icon or a result called View local services with a gear and check mark icon. These are the same thing. Open whichever result you get.

  4. Scroll through the list of Windows services until you find Print Spooler. If the services are not listed alphabetically, clicking on the Name header will fix that.

  5. Highlight Print Spooler once you've found it.

  6. In the left hand pane, you will either see Start the service or Restart the service. Click on whichever you option is shown. If your services windows said Start the service, there's a good chance this will fix your issue. The spooler is required to be running for jobs to print.

  7. Once it's started or restarted, attempt to generate a test receipt with your software again.

Reinstall Printer Drivers

  1. The download for the Dymo drivers for all the printers we support can be downloaded from our website here.

  2. You will want to make sure to Uninstall the drivers for the printer currently installed and then restart your system before reinstalling new drivers.

  3. If reinstalling drivers does not get the receipt printing working with your software again, you will need to contact Dymo for additional support.
